Back again.
Yes, UOUO is one of my go-to restaurants when it comes to Sashimi. Yes it's located in a relatively inconvenient place (a bit of a distance from the nearest MRT), and yes it's not the most relaxing and romantic of atmospheres.
But for good sashimi? Who cares!
I've previously done a review on the normal sashimi platter at UOUO. Last time, I went for the 6 sashimi platter in addition to some other dishes.
This post is a sequel to that post.

Let's jump right into it!
The potato salad and Gyu-zara
Just eating sashimi after sashimi gets tiring, so good to mix it in with some other food.
Today I went for the potato salad and Gyu-zara.
What's a Gyu-zara?
If you've ever ordered a beef bowl (or a Gyudon) at a Yoshinoya or Sukiya, well, it's the same stuff. Only without the rice.
So if you like beef bowl, but you're conscious about carbs, you might like this.
The Gyu-zara has a relatively strong taste, so I wouldn't recommend this individually. However, it matches well as a "taste changer" when you're eating a lot of Sashimi.
Both are just as expected. Nothing special. But solid.
Good choices to match with Sashimi.
Potato Mochi
I actually forgot what the exact name on the menu was, but it's what it is. Potato and mochi.
Also what you'd expect from an Izakaya.
Solid choices.
Ok, without further adieu, let's jump into the sashimi platter.
9 Types Sashimi Platter
wow.
Here's a close-up angle.
Take a look at this.
This is an amazing Sashimi platter.
So my partner doesn't like ika (squid) or ebi (shrimp). Usually one or both of these would be included in the platter. So this platter is a "no ika, no ebi" 9 type sashimi platter.
There is an additional cost when you customize the sashimi platter like that.
I think it was $5 or so.
This is really reasonable. The platter is $39 or so in the first place (if you also order drinks).
Not sure if it was a special treatment for us or not. (We go there enough that the owner - Matsumono-san recognizes us)
So here are the types of fish in the platter today.
Hmm... I didn't notice this, but there's actually 10 types of sashimi. I think this is either a mistake or a special service on UOUO's end.
But can you imagine? 10 types of Sashimi, for roughly $45++.
How can that even be matched?
The content of the platter changes on a daily basis based on the availability. It's safe to say that this was a really really lucky week.
Here are the types of sashimi and their English fish names.
Aji - Horse Mackerel
Sawara - Japanese Spanish Mackerel Sashimi
Kawahagi - Filefish
Salmon
Maguro - (Bluefin) Tuna
Toro - Belly of the (Bluefin) Tuna
Madai - Sea bream
Mejina - not sure what it's called in English
Fuedai - Snapper
Shimesaba - Vinegared Mackerel
The quality of the sashimi are all really truly superior.
The highlight is definitely the Maguro and Toro. They were AMAZING.
So according to Matsumoto-san, the Maguro is FRESH blue fin Tuna. Which means it's not frozen. That's really high quality ingredients that you can only find in really high-end restaurants. You can NEVER find that at this price point.
And you can tell. The taste of the Maguro is really present, and is unbelievably delicious.
UOUO's sashimi continues to impress.
OK, last menu.
One we had last time as well, but one of our favorites.
Chikuwa no Isobe Age
Ehh?
What happened here. No aonori? (Which is the seaweed seasoning that makes this taste delicous)
I think they missed out on this.
I should have noticed earlier to ask them to re-cook. But noticed a bit too late hahaha.
But I'm already completely satisfied with the sashimi. So it's ok.
Guru Rating
for the Sashimi Platter: 9.8/10
Last time I rated this as a 9.5. I increased the rating even further to a 9.8. This is the highest ranking food in any food category I have in my blog. Amazing quality, amazing size, especially when you consider the unbelievably reasonable price.
