It's the season of the Unagi!
Well, I should have eaten it last week because it was Unagi day or "Doyo-no-Ushi" in Japan.
I had immense cravings for this food for a long while. I was willing to try anything nearby.
As I had a tiny little thing to do at Vivocity in the morning, I decided to go to Una Una, located inside Vivocity mall for Lunch.

This time is the first time I'm trying Una Una out.
I've never tried any of their branches before.
Let's get right into it!
The restaurant has a pleasant open atmosphere within Vivocity mall.
If you're looking for a private and quiet place, this is not the place to go. However, as you can see from the picture, it's open, spacious, and clean.
I would say it's an excellent atmosphere for a family to enjoy their meal.
Menu
Let's take a look at the menu.
It seems like their main dish is the Hitsumabushi.
I see some excessive menu items that I wouldn't want in a truly authentic Unagi restaurant. So there is a bit of localization done here.
Which is okay as a restaurant. As I always say, my rating is based on how authentically Japanese things are. Small deductions in this area.
Outside of that, I'm missing some of my favorite dishes in the menu as well. Dishes such as Uzaku, Umaki, Shirayaki, and Kimo are a big part of the Unagi experience.
Too bad I don't see them.
That's a big bummer for an Unagi lover like me.
So here is our order, for Two of us.
Unajyu Full SGD 29.8
Unagi Kabayaki 33.8
The pricing is very close to other quality Unagi restaurants. Might Una Una be a tad cheaper?
But mostly the same. Therefore, I'll expect a solid quality Unagi from the restaurant.
Here it is.
Taste
The taste of the Unagi is good. Freshness and storing conditions seem not to have issues.
The Unagi is crispy on the outside and sometimes hard on the inside, which is too bad. Instead, it should be crispy outside but soft on the interior.
In an Unagi restaurant, I'd say this texture is one of the most challenging skills to perfect. But it significantly impacts the dish's enjoyability—a small deduction here.
The rice is an integral part of the Unajyu, and it's ok. Decent. Nothing to highlight, but it's good solid rice.
The bones are handled acceptably, which is an important part as well.
Guru Rating
As a Unagi restaurant : 7.0 / 10.0
I wouldn't mind going again. I feel that Una Una is a restaurant where you can get decent restaurant quality Unagi for a tad below the other Unagi restaurants.
Would I go ahead and recommend this? Maybe not.
When we talk about Singapore, other quality Unagi shops will have a better experience than Una Una. That brings my Guru Rating score to 7.0 out of 10.0.
